Twitter is still one of the fastest growing social networks and businesses are finding there’s a lot they can do in 140 characters or less. Let’s take a look at how to make Twitter work for your business.

These Airlines Reply to Polar Vortex Tweets in 15 Minutes or Less

How do you let hundreds of thousands of customers know you’re feeling their pain? Take to Twitter, of course: They’re already there venting their frustrations. Depending on the airline, it can provide an efficient way to deal with some customer service issues.

Quick Take: One of Twitter’s best features is the easy access to your customer base. If you have a Twitter handle, customers are able to send you direct messages with any comments or concerns they may have. Companies like Nike (@NikeSupport) and Comcast (@ComcastCares) do a fantastic job staying on top of and responding to these messages. If you have an issue with a product, you simply direct your concern to the Twitter handle and you get a response. The quick response allows for a level of customer service that can only be reached through Social Media.

How to Attract the Right Kind of Twitter Audience

If growing a following and building your brand is your goal, you’ll want to monitor your results. If you’re putting yourself out there and people aren’t responding, you may need to change your approach.

Quick Take: As with any form of marketing, it’s important to know your Twitter audience. We’ve all seen the stories of “tweets gone wrong”. Make sure you know your audience and your tweets are appealing to them. If something gets backlash, readjust and stay away from that topic in the future.

Twitter Map Tracks Users Ringing in 2014 Around the Globe

The graphic pulls out New Year’s greetings in more than 30 different languages, showing when each phrase was tweeted the most. The term “Happy New Year,” for example, spiked at midnight in London, then again five hours later when the clock struck 12 a.m. on the East Coast of the United States.

Quick Take: Twitter is cool. There is no other medium that is able to aggregate results as seamlessly as Twitter.
